We are excited to invite you to deep canvass in DC neighborhoods, opening up conversations with our neighbors about police violence and abolition. Deep canvassing is a long-term, research-based strategy that SURJ is using to invite our neighbors to re-think their support for systemic white supremacy.
Our final canvass of 2022 will be Saturday, November 19th. The training portion of the day will be *INSIDE* the Petworth Neighborhood Library starting at 10:30AM (you'll get a confirmation email with the room to meet at; we ask everyone to wear a mask while indoors). Lunch and canvassing will be outdoors, so please bring any warm layers, sunscreen, hats, water, or other supplies that will help you be outside. There will be bathrooms available for each training. The day will include a training, practice time, canvassing and a debrief, and we'll wrap up by 2:30PM. We'll have opportunities to learn from and share collective knowledge about what works in conversations with white people about white supremacy.
To keep each other safe, we are asking that participants be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 and wear a mask when indoors. If you are not vaccinated but would like to attend, please let us know.
If you'd like to pitch in to make this action day happen, there are lots of easy ways to do so! We're looking for volunteers to help with food, do data entry, and help with set-up and clean-up, as well as help plan future Deep Canvasses. If you can help out, let us know at
