After calling for a federal abortion ban last week, Nikki Haley is doubling down in an ad bragging about signing an abortion ban that had no exceptions for rape or incest and threatened doctors with jail time – promising to go further on her extreme anti-abortion record. 

Haley embraced a federal abortion ban at the headquarters of the anti-choice extremist group calling on 2024 Republicans to endorse national abortion bans.  

Haley: “I do believe there is a federal role on abortion.” 

“I said I want to save as many babies and help as many moms as possible. That is my goal. To do that at the federal level, the next president must find national consensus.”

As governor of South Carolina, Haley signed an extreme abortion ban that made no exceptions for rape or incest and threatened doctors with jail time for providing care for their patients. 

TIME: “The law passed the General Assembly last week and blocks women from having abortions after 19 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest. Doctors who violate the law could face a fine or jail time.”
