Dear Friend,

Our biggest piece of news for our movement comes from Florida, not Maine. Last Tuesday, Florida’s legislature passed the “Parental Rights in Education” bill. This bill would prevent elementary school teachers from grooming children. They may no longer pressure kids to develop same-sex attraction or switch their gender. It would also prevent them from inserting this pressure into school curricula. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says that the premise of the bill is simple: "I don’t want the schools to kind of be a playground for ideological disputes.” After all, the parents should be educating children on these topics, not the state.

This, of course, has not prevented President Biden from calling this bill “hateful.” His press secretary Jen Psaki claims that this bill “targets vulnerable students.” But despite this vague opposition, there is little reason to think this bill harms anyone. It restores to parents their right to be the first ones to discuss these issues with their children. We hope that with the right people in Augusta, we could see similar legislation here in Maine.

This effort in Florida mirrors something we told you about a few weeks ago: Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s fight to protect children in his own state. We hear stories too often of children who are pressured into life-altering surgeries simply because they do things often associated with the other sex. Governor Abbott was very clear on the matter: this is child abuse, and should be treated that way. With your prayers, we hope to see more governors willing to take similar stands for life and children.

Besides this, you may have already heard that President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. If you would like to get a better sense of her background, the Heritage Foundation released an excellent article on the subject. It is no surprise to us that she is in favor of abortion and has a history of promoting the LGBTQ+ agenda. We ask you to pray for her as she goes through the taxing process of a Supreme Court nomination. We also ask that you pray for our Senators, especially Susan Collins and Angus King. Our hope is that they might be able to wisely discern whether she is truly fitted for this role, without any regard for political questions.

More close to home, we are happy to report that one of our board members, Jeffery Tounge, is running for the State Senate District #27. This is currently the seat of Senator Heather Sanborn in Portland, Maine. Jeff is a biblically-grounded, God-fearing man who would do very well in that role. He is actively collecting signatures to appear on the ballot. If you wish to sign his petition or help out with his campaign, please reach out to Shawn Roderick at 207-458-2973 or roderickshawn@gmail.com
