Research, teaching, running an NGO, and founding a data analytics startup has taken me across the globe and this site is an effort to try to draw together the many strands and to make my work more accessible to those interested in learning more, partnering, and taking these ideas and projects further.

I have served in a number of leadership capacities in academia, business, and non-profits and have pioneered the application of data-driven methods to reduce and prevent religion-related violence. This varied existence has led me to lead something of a double life in and outside of academia. Currently, I am Research Faculty at the Program on Human Flourishing in the Institute for Quantiative Social Science at Harvard University. From 2019-2022 I was an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Before coming to Harvard, I held a permanent research post at the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry at Australian Catholic University. Before that, I was the Associate Director of the Initiative on Religion, Politics and Conflict at the University of Virginia, and held fellowships at the Université Paris – Sorbonne (as Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellow) and Yale.

In 2021, I Founded FilterLabs.AI. Based in Cambridge, MA, FilterLabs is a data analytics company that leverages machine learning models to fuse sentiment analysis with economic, social, and political indicators to offer a more granular and holistic picture of beliefs and behavior. This project is informed by two previous endeavors. From 2016 to 2018, I was Co- Director of Global Covenant Partners, a coalition of religious actors, scholars, activists, and civil society members dedicated to cultural flourishing, regenerative principles and assisting victims of religion-related violence worldwide (now Regenerate Shingal). And from 2013-2015, I was an economist at Lehrman, Bell, Mueller and Canon, an econometric consulting firm based in Washington, DC. Filter Labs is, in one sense, the marriage between my academic, non-profit, and business experiences. But it’s also something of a new departure for me professionally.

Projects

FilterLabs is a data analytics company that fuses sentiment analysis with economical, social, and political indicators to giver a more granular, holistic picture of beliefs and behavior. We work globally but have come to be known for our analysis within conflict zones and other hard to reach corners of the world.

Trust and Belonging Intiative at the Harvard Program on Human Flourishing wants to help build infrastructure for social trust by better understanding why frienship and community participation are declining in the US and beyond.

Regenerate Shingal is a project initiated by Global Covenant Partners in Northern Iraq. Global Covenant Partners is a coaltion of religious actors, scholars, activists, and civil society members dedicated to cultural flourishing, regenerative principles and assisting victims of religion-related violence worldwide.
