Keep RGGI Out of the Budget

Since Virginia joined the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised for low-income housing improvements. These essential energy efficiency and weatherization upgrades are great for our climate and great for environmental justice.

With each project, emissions are reduced and people who need support the most save money. The average household saves over $600 each year!

But Virginia’s Governor and house republicans want to take away these badly needed benefits.

In their budget proposals, the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program is vastly underfunded. They take funds from this program and divert it for flood recovery. CCAN fully supports flood recovery efforts. They are desperately needed. But our state should take money from the General Funds to support them – not divert resources from a program that actively helps people living in poverty.

Write your letter to YOUR legislators on the budget committee. Tell them to keep supporting climate and keep supporting low-income Virginians!
