Pass a Comprehensive Tree Ordinance in Boston - Support Climate Justice

Please use this letter writing tool to tell the Boston City Council that it is essential to pass comprehensive tree protection ordinances NOW!

The recent Tree Canopy Assessment conducted in Boston reveals that Tree Canopy cover in Boston is under threat, and that many neighborhoods, especially those that have high concentrations of Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, immigrant, and low-income residents are disproportionately impacted by the resulting negative environmental effects that affect their health and quality of life.

Because  the 2020 Tree Canopy Assessment found that more tree canopy was lost on residential land than any other land use type; because all Boston residents deserve to have a public, accessible and transparent way to learn about changes to tree canopy in their neighborhoods; and because preserving existing tree canopy or canopy under immediate threat (such as Malcolm X Park,) and planting new trees in areas where tree canopy is low or has been removed, are the most effective ways to protect future tree canopy, and build climate and environmental resiliency, It is essential that the Boston City Council pass a comprehensive Tree Protection Ordinance.
