Save Newton’s Tree Canopy

Newton Cemetery & Arboretum (NCA) plans to cut 220 mature trees along Commonwealth Ave. and the North Street neighborhood as part of its upcoming Phase II Expansion Project.

Mature trees affect air quality, ambient temperature, and water drainage, as well as carbon capture. Cutting even one mature tree has negative impacts beyond one property and its immediate abutters; it affects a much larger area. Cutting 220 trees will be devastating!

To add insult to injury, NCA plans to ask Mayor Fuller for a waiver of the limited fees and mitigation that the City’s current tree ordinance requires.
