Background: Climate activists Joanna Smith and Tim Martin, supporters of Declare Emergency, have been indicted on federal conspiracy charges for their peaceful climate protest at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Despite causing no direct damage to the artwork and having minimal overall impact, they now face severe penalties of a $500,000 fine and ten years in prison. This appears to be part of a deliberate strategy of intimidation targeting such groups and their supporters. Furthermore, recent arrests of Stop Cop City supporters and the tragic killing of Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, known as Tortuguita, by the police raise concerns about constitutional rights. It is essential that we unite in opposition to this repression.
