175-day Local 100G Strike at Ingredion Ends; New Contract Overwhelmingly Ratified

More than 120 members of BCTGM 100G (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) on strike against Ingredion Corporation in Cedar Rapids voted to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement, bringing an end to the nearly six-month strike that began on August 1.

Reflecting on the vote to accept the new agreement, BCTGM International President Anthony Shelton stated,

โ€œThis has been a long and difficult fight for our striking members and their families. With each new day on that picket line, fighting for what they deserve, our members grew in strength, courage and determination. I could not be more proud of these hard working members who put it all out on the line to fight for a fair contract.โ€

For nearly six months, union members fought to achieve a fair collective bargaining agreement that protects seniority rights, maintains benefits and work rules, safe guards work hours and provides wage increases.

โ€œI am proud of the tenacity of our striking members at Ingredion and commend the union negotiating committee for their rock-solid commitment to achieving a fair and just contract for the members of Local 100G. The members went out as one, stood strong as one, and will all come back as one.โ€

Local 100G members received tremendous support from BCTGM Locals throughout North America, the Cedar Rapids labor community, the AFL-CIO and affiliated unions as well as allied organizations. On January 13, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders urged Ingredion CEO James Zallie to bargain in good faith and offer workers a fair contract.
