UNION STRONG! After Nearly Five Years, Engineering Association (EA/IFPTE Local 1937) Member, Timothy Hubbard, Wins His Job Back!

The much-anticipated arbitrator’s decision involving the unjust termination of EA/IFPTE Local 1937 member, Timothy Hubbard, was released earlier this week.  The decision, which comes nearly five years after TVA fired Brother Hubbard, was both convincing and sweeping in Hubbard’s defense, finding that, “The Grievant's termination is to be set aside and the Grievant is to be returned to work with back pay and no loss of seniority or benefits.”

In response to the arbitrator’s decision, Brother Hubbard, who is a Radiation Protection Technician at TVA and was a Local 1937 steward at the time he was fired, penned a letter of appreciation to EA/IFPTE Local 1937 president, Carolyn Wilson, with copies being sent to all EA board members and IFPTE executive council members, stating that, “I have been waiting now for five years for this day to come.  I, and my union, knew that TVA fired me without cause, and did so without providing me any due process…” and, “If I told you that this has not taken a toll on my family and me, both personally and professionally, I’d be lying.”. Hubbard went on to reinforce the importance of strong unionism, writing that, “All of us as workers need the protections that come with a union card, and that is exactly what I got from my Union.”

Brother Hubbard’s arbitration defense was a team effort led by EA/IFPTE Local 1937 Labor Relations Specialist/Eastern Federal Area Vice President, Renae McKenzie; International Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson; International General Counsel, Teresa Ellis, and; International Representative, David LaFemina.
