Shake 'N Bake is known for shaking things up, but that usually pertains to seasoning meat. This time around, the shake-up involves sustainability.

According to a news release shared today, boxes of Shake 'N Bake will no longer include a plastic shaker bag. The decision to cut the bags will save a staggering 900,000 pounds of plastic waste annually.

If you're unaware, Shake 'N Bake is a packaged seasoned bread crumb product that lets customers mimic the taste of crispy fried chicken and other meats without having to fry them. Prior to today's announcement, a plastic shaker bag included in the box was used to coat the meat before baking.

Brianna Galvin, Shake 'N Bake's brand manager, explained that the "simple, yet effective packaging change" was made to help the brand evolve.

"As a family staple for over 50 years, we are proud to evolve with the world around us, ushering in a new effort to help our brand — and our fans — take steps toward a more sustainable future," said Galvin in a statement. "While the 'shaker' bag is an important part of our legacy, our product is just as effective and delicious without the plastic waste, and we are excited for all the good to come from this simple, yet effective packaging change."

With plastic shaker bags now a thing of the past, Shake 'N Bake suggests that customers use a reusable container to mix up their favorite recipes.
