Want to help OPEN champion a world where all love is celebrated? We’ve been making waves the non-monogamy advocacy space – and with your help, we can do even more. Peer-to-peer fundraising is a powerful way to help OPEN achieve a wider reach for a deeper impact! Use this guide to start a social media fundraiser for OPEN or to share a fundraiser with your email list or favorite non-monogamy community group. Share a fundraising appeal
Making a direct fundraising appeal to your community or audience is a powerful way to help drive support for OPEN’s work. Whether you manage a large community email list or are part of a local online non-monogamy group, use the copy below as-is or as a jumping-off point to craft your own appeal.

Today, I wanted to invite you to join me in supporting an organization whose mission is close to my heart.
OPEN (Organization for Polyamory and Ethical Non-monogamy) nonprofit organization working to advance cultural acceptance and legal rights for non-monogamous families and relationships. Since their launch last year, OPEN has become an important advocate for our community.
This summer, OPEN launched the first global Day of Visibility for Non-monogamy on July 15. They also helped to achieve the first non-discrimination protections for diverse family and relationship structures in Somerville, MA, and are working with legislators in more cities to expand these protections. These are just a few highlights of their impactful work – you can read their full 2023 Impact Report here.
It’s clear that the non-monogamy movement is gaining real ground… but we still have a long way to go! As many of us know all too well, non-monogamy is still a marginalized identity. Many of us have faced stigma or downright discrimination at work, in family courts, and more.
That’s why I’m inviting you to join me in supporting OPEN’s work with a contribution. In the coming year, OPEN has big plans: wider legislative advocacy, an expanded global Week of Visibility for Non-monogamy, and more resources like their free, twice-monthly Peer Support Circles.

Start a Social Media Fundraiser
Start a Fundraiser on Facebook
Log into your Facebook account and click “Fundraisers” on the left (you might need to click the “See More” button to see this option).
On the left, click the “Raise Money” button.
Find OPEN by searching for “Organization for Polyamory and Ethical Nonmonogamy)
On the left, enter your fundraising goal (we suggest an achievable goal like $250, $500, or $1,000!) and an end date for your fundraiser (we suggest a full month). You can also enter a title, description, and cover photo for your fundraiser. We provide some options below!
Click “Create” to publish your fundraiser.
Make sure your fundraiser gets seen! Share it to your feed with a post about why you support OPEN, and invite friends to contribute. You can also post your fundraiser to non-monogamy Facebook groups that you’re a member of. Thank you!
Start a Fundraiser on Instagram
Log into the Instagram mobile app (you can’t create a fundraiser from Instagram.com in your browser)
Tap the “+” button to create a new post
Create or choose your image and tap next; crop and filter your post, and then tap Next. We provide links to some images you can use below!
Tap “Add fundraiser.”
Select OPEN by searching for “Organization for Polyamory and Ethical Nonmonogamy” or our Instagram handle, @openloveorg.
Enter your fundraising goal. Think about a goal that is realistic for your follower count. We suggest a minimum of $100 and as much as $5,000!
Optionally, tap “Invite Collaborators” and invite OPEN as a collaborator. This will allow us to signal boost your fundraiser!
Click “Share” to publish your fundraiser. Thank you!

Tips for writing a fundraiser description / post
Make it personal! Tell people why our work matters to you. You might include a story about your non-monogamous identity; whether how it’s been beneficial to your life, or a time you were harmed by the stigma and discrimination that we’re working to end.
Make it specific! Let people know what OPEN does. You can mention our advocacy for non-discrimination legislation, the Day of Visibility for Non-monogamy that we launched, our educational resources and free peer support sessions, or Open Workplaces Initiative!
