YOU CAN’T EXPEL A MOVEMENT!

I promised to fight for you in Nashville, and I will always keep my promise. Since taking office, we have:

  • Elevated the challenges of District 86 on a national and international platform to help center the voices in our community who have been neglected by people in positions of power.

  • Defended our rights to representation and protest by refusing to be silent about the gun violence terrorizing our communities.

  • Written 15 pieces of legislation to end gun violence and stop the proliferation of daily violence we experience in District 86, Memphis, and Shelby County.

  • Opposed dozens of harmful bills that sought to limit our freedoms, silence our voices, and offer fake solutions to real problems.

OUR MOVEMENT FOR JUSTICE FIGHTS ON

On March 27th, a person with an assault rifle killed Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Hallie Scruggs who were all 9 years old and Mike Hill, Cynthia Peak, and Katherine Koonce at the Covenant School in Nashville. This epidemic of gun violence is shattering our families and communities. Personally, I lost my classmate Larry Thorn earlier this year to gun violence and also my mentor Dr. Yvonne Nelson last year to gun violence. Because my colleagues Representative Gloria Johnson and Representative Justin Jones and I exercised our first amendment rights on the house floor to demand an end to gun violence and for gun control legislation after this horrific tragedy in Nashville, resolutions were filed to expel us.

Speaker Cameron Sexton, Rep. William Lamberth, Rep. Jeremy Faison, Rep. Bud Husley, Rep. Andrew Farmer, and Rep. Gino Bulso led the process to expel us.

On April 6th, Representative Jones and I were expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives and our people were disenfranchised. Our democracy is being lost at the hands of people who would rather silence our First Amendment and not pass common sense gun safety laws no matter how many children, parents, siblings, grandparents, and loved ones are lost. I promise to keep fighting for you District 86 and all believers in justice. Let us remember. Let us never quit. Let us keep fighting!

Rep. Pearson’s Speeches

JUSTIN J. PEARSON: FIGHTER FOR THE PEOPLE

Justin J. Pearson helped our community defeat two multi-billion dollar company’s crude oil pipeline which was stealing our land and threatening our drinking water. He helped pass three laws in Memphis and Shelby County and has continued his advocacy to stop interlocking injustices in our community. Justin J. will fight for justice in our community and has proven that no Goliath is too big for District 86 to take on.

MEET JUSTIN J.

I am the fourth son of teenage parents. We grew up financially poor but spiritually rich. My Mama’s a teacher and my Daddy’s a preacher. I will stand up for District 86 in Memphis and in Nashville because I know how much of a difference it makes for someone to speak up and fight for us. I witnessed this in Representative Cooper in her fight against the pipeline alongside us and I hope to continue to serve in that manner.
