Company description

The Black Farmer Ecosystem comprises six Black and Indigenous-led organizations. helping to free our people through nutrition, food, health, community, economic development, agrarian knowledge transfer, and land access for Black communities in the Northeast with an epicenter in New York State. Our collective contribution to Black liberation is: creating a coordinated, streamlined pathway to Black farmers’ success by supporting Black farmers to own and operate successful farms by 1) facilitating access to financial capital, land, and social networks that educate policymakers; 2) Fostering collective governance and shared democratic decision-making over financial resources and investments in our Black food system; 3) Connecting Black farmers and larger in-region  markets, which bolsters local food systems and reduces carbon footprints; and 4) Increasing Black farmers’ access to innovative, culturally relevant and climate-resilient training and technical assistance.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

The Ecosystem seeks candidates whose work exhibits general mission alignment and professional competency in the following areas: 

 

Required Skills and experience

  • Project management and adaptability;
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills where multiple stakeholders share decision-making;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Background in group facilitation or community organizing;
  • Familiarity with the particular obstacles faced by Black farmers in our region;
  • Knowledge of the history of Black farmers in America

 

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with democratic governance processes;

Job description

This permanent position manages an existing collaborative project of six Ecosystem partner organizations. The position is housed with one partnering organization, but the work is for the collaborative project. With the exception of occasional retreats and in-person meetings, work will be remote and consist of managing organization and planning meetings among Ecosystem members; fundraising, grant and budget management; internal and external communications; and progress monitoring and reporting. Travel -10% 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitation, Coordination, Relationship-Building 

  • Lead coordination and facilitation of quarterly strategic planning sessions and semi-monthly meetings for Ecosystem 
  • Identify and convene ad-hoc space around Ecosystem’s collective emerging needs
  • Identify needs and offers across Ecosystem organizations and partners to identify opportunities for mutual support 
  • Hold and coordinate spaces and activities for Ecosystem relationship- and community-building 
  • Send notes, action items and lead follow-ups from meeting spaces
 

Fundraising 

  • Track and coordinate grant and other funding opportunities for Ecosystem-wide work, grant management and reporting
  • Configuring Ecosystem-wide budget and support with allocation of time/resources across the Ecosystem organizations  
  • Lead donor prospect research and be the focal point for drafting proposals, compiling and submitting  all collaborative grants
 

Communications

  • Develop cohesive narrative voice for Ecosystem fundraising and communications both within and external to our communities 
  • Develop communication materials, site content, talking points for Ecosystem partners 
  • Update Ecosystem partners on events/news/policies that impact Ecosystem work
  • Manage and update  database of events happening across the Ecosystem
  • Compile monthly resource list of opportunities across Ecosystem partners and beyond to share with our organizational audiences
  • Coordinate with communications consultant to develop illustrations/infographics that reflect collective Ecosystem work as needed
 

Evaluation 

  • Coordinate with consultants to develop evaluation standards for Ecosystem work.
  • Co-create metrics and systems for evaluation of our collective success and impact;
  • Implement and manage Ecosystem evaluations systems
  • Engage Ecosystem members in envisioning our potential impact and success
