Americans for Prosperity launching $9 million ad campaign on 'Obamacare' ruling

The conservative outside-spending behemoth Americans for Prosperity will launch a $9 million ad campaign targeting the Affordable Care Act in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the law, AFP president Tim Phillips tells me.

The ads will begin Wednesday afternoon, with the total price tag covering broadcast television, cable and social media in 12 presidential swing states.

The message, Phillips said: Obama “owns the mandate” – and now it’s a tax, according to the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court’s ruled and President Obama’s now given us one of the biggest tax increases in history,” Phillips said. “We’re going to remind people of the disastrous components of this legislation.”

The Court decision keeping the law in place will make the ACA a much more immediate source of concern for voters, Phillips predicted.

“I think a lot of Americans have assumed, ‘Well, the Court will do something,’ or, ‘It’s 2014, that’s so far off,’” Phillips said. “Unless there’s a big change or unless they repeal it, it’s coming for certain.”
