We are over 90% to our goal. You can help get us all the way there!
Formed in 2008, We Are Not Your Soldiers continues to bring veterans into classrooms to share their experiences in the U.S. military while engaging in dialogue with students, exposing imperial wars to a generation largely unaware of the crimes being carried out throughout the world in their names.
We Are Not Your Soldiers had a remarkable 2022, reaching over a thousand students and engaging them in critical conversations. Remote visits were made to classes in two well-prepared New York City middle schools, one public, one private; high schools in NYC, Philadelphia and Seattle - regular and alternative schools, including a JROTC class and English Language Learners and special education students; two visits to the same Oregon high school class reading The Things They Carried set during the war on Vietnam so that students' many questions could be answered; a four-by-four series in a NYC high school - four speakers over one semester to the same four classes; community colleges in North Carolina, Long Island and NYC; and universities in NYC, Long Island and Philadelphia.
In 2022 our path-breaking We Are Not Your Soldiers project had 8 presenters: veterans of the U.S. wars on Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and of the global network of U.S. bases maintaining U.S. imperialist domination. These presenters bring their own stories to students as living history lessons.
It is only with your help that we have internet presence and communication tools to continue our ground-breaking project of bringing veterans into classrooms without any charge to the schools. How else would young people get to hear these voices and dialogue with them on what has happened to the people of countries around the world due to U.S. military interventions?
We always emphasize that students shouldn’t believe us any more than “authority figures” such as the mass media. They need to do their own research and check on facts for themselves. And, we introduce morality as a core idea.
Your help is what keeps this program going. Help broaden outreach with advertising and provide stipends to the veterans allowing them to take time off from work.

Joy Damiani—If You Ain't Cheatin', You Ain't Tryin'
"Chronicles one skeptical soldier's uncensored misadventures in creatively coping with life, the military, and a mission full of oxymorons in the early years of the Global War on Terror.'... irreverent humor and great insight...this is an impressively perspicacious reflection, as astute as it is personally forthcoming. A thoughtful examination of the tension between the demands of journalism and military life." – Kirkus Reviews
