Tell Facebook:

STOP BUILDING INSTAGRAM FOR KIDS

A pause is not enough. Facebook must scrap it permanently.

We’ve seen the damage Facebook and Instagram wreak on adults of all ages—from rampant cyberbullying and harms to mental health, to privacy abuses and manipulative design. Facebook’s own internal research shows the dangerous toll Instagram can have on one’s mental health and well-being. The last thing we need is to expose children to these threats at the most vulnerable point in their development.

An Instagram for kids would have disastrous consequences for children as well as their parents, particularly single-parent households or those working two or more jobs, by overly placing the burden of monitoring activity on parents. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, and bullying are learned behaviors, not inherently known to a child. And social media platforms, particularly Facebook and Instagram, are the new classrooms for hate.

Instagram for Kids would have disastrous consequences. Thousands of people, experts, lawmakers, and officials agree: Facebook must release its internal research and stop building a version of Instagram for children under the age of 13.
