GPP IS SEEKING EXPERIENCED

SENIOR STRATEGISTS

WHO WE ARE

Grassroots Power Project (GPP) believes structural transformation of our society is crucial. Stronger, more strategic community and labor organizing formations will help undo the damages of neoliberalism and racial capitalism. We believe our movements must collectively shift from short-term strategies aimed at winning incremental change towards long-term strategies to win governing power. GPP works to facilitate a shift towards this strategic orientation with our community and labor partners.

GPP works with organizations, alliances and labor to develop new organizing practices to achieve transformational social change. Through decades of partnership with grassroots groups, we have developed a series of strategic frameworks. These tools support organizations to be more effective and ambitious. They facilitate a shift away from short-term, incremental campaigns and towards building and wielding governing power to achieve economic, racial, gender and environmental justice.

POSITION BACKGROUND:

The Grassroots Policy Project is seeking seasoned community and/or labor organizers who can drive the development of some of our core programs that are aimed at expanding the boundaries of current radical and progressive practices in the social justice movement.

We are collectively focused on the development of a more consolidated and politically coherent social justice strategy - at both state and national levels - that is focused on building governing power.

We are looking for Senior Strategists who have the capacity to drive the development of national-level projects in some key sectors of the social justice movement, for example, the labor movement and climate movement, and to support the development of state alignment processes in key states. Senior Strategists would also be engaged in broader organizational projects, as appropriate to interest and capacity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years demonstrated experience working at a senior level in the US labor movement and/or grassroots community organizing, including a background with some combination of organizing, training/education or political organizing

  • Established praxis as a trainer/educator and proven ability to accompany and mentor people engaged in movement work

  • Strong project management skills

  • Ability to work well with a team of other senior staff, and to coordinate the resources within GPP to achieve maximum impact for this project

  • A network of contacts and colleagues, and a respected position among movement peers

  • Advanced research and writing skills; experience writing reports for use with funders and movement leaders preferred

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and consensus-building skills

  • Ability to map key forces in the movement: deep knowledge of national and state social justice organizations and key policy fights

  • Self-motivated to learn and apply GPP’s strategic frameworks

DUTIES:

  • To drive the development of a strong program area, working in dialogue with other GPP staff and our state-level partners to identify clear vision and plans.

  • To oversee the successful execution of GPP’s current strategic facilitation and educational work in the specific sector, ensuring we produce key deliverables and maintain solid relationships with our current set of partners.

  • Supervise and/or coordinate with staff and/or consultants or other partners in the program area as needed.

  • To act as project manager for the program area, effectively drawing from the skills and resources of your GPP teammates to support all of the aforementioned duties.

  • To support fundraising efforts as needed

  • Other duties as required
