PSEG Long Island and Local 1049, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, hammered out a new collective bargaining agreement, a week before the previous contract was to expire.

The four-year agreement was ratified with a vote of IBEW Local 1049 membership on Nov. 4 and approved by the Long Island Power Authority, according to a company statement. It covers nearly 1,500 PSEG Long Island employees who operate and support the transmission and distribution system on Long Island and in the Rockaways.

“Through a fair democratic process, our members have ratified a contract with PSEG Long Island that invests in their future through strong wage increases, healthcare coverage, and retirement benefits,” Pat Guidice, business manager for Local 1049, said in the statement. “This shows labor’s power when we stand united at the bargaining table.”

The agreement enables PSEG Long Island to control costs and continue to offer a market-competitive compensation and benefits package, according to the company. The contract includes wage increases over four years and changes to active employee medical plan contributions.

“The agreement provides continued stability and strengthens the partnership between the company, its employees and IBEW Local 1049,” David Lyons, interim president and COO of PSEG Long Island, said in the statement. “We value the partnership we have built with Local 1049 over nearly a decade, and we look forward to working with them to continue PSEG Long Island’s commitment of delivering outstanding service to customers.”

The new contract between PSEG Long Island and Local 1049 runs through Nov. 13, 2027.

Thomas Falcone, LIPA CEO, said the contract “recognizes the dedication and contributions” of the union.

“I look forward to all we’ll do together for our community over the next four years,” Falcone said in the statement. “I’d also like to thank the negotiation team on both sides that put in long hours over many months to find the right outcome for our employees, customers, and community.”
