My coffee hour this afternoon was a great opportunity for me to hear from my constituents. They're concerned about the increased costs to their healthcare, the budget not being passed yet, and confusion about the federal budget cuts and requirements. For folks like John, who lives alone and has a heart problem and is on Medicaid, relying on publicly transportation can only work at part-time, the w ... See MoreSee Less

Took a ride with Captain Tony Brandano of the Lakes Pilots Association to see firsthand how vital our pilots are to the safe and steady flow of goods through our waterways. From steel to grain, they guide ships through narrow channels, protect our infrastructure, and power our economy—all while navigating international waters shared with Canada. As rising tariffs threaten this flow, we must do eve ... See MoreSee Less

7 month update on what's happening in Michigan:

We now have 80 days from today to have both of our budgets done to avoid a state government shutdown.

9 bills are still being unconstitutionally withheld by the House Speaker Matt Hall.

$129 Million in taxpayer money and more, is currently being held up from being utilized or sent to local communities for the remainder of the year.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to join my colleague Rep. Joseph Pavlov from the 64th House District in Port Huron, along with other legislators.

I toured the Lakes Pilots Association and joined Captain Tony Brandano on a pilot boat through St. Clair River to Lake Huron, then under the Blue Water Bridge. Going through the narrow channel made me realize just how close Canada is to our border. Watch

I hear it over and over again: seniors working full-time jobs just to afford basic needs like rent, groceries, and medication, or getting laid off before they can even save for a retirement.

It’s heartbreaking—and unacceptable.

Michigan has a growing and aging population—so what can we do to help address this issue? We must invest in affordable senior housing, expand access to home care and prescr

Watching the pedestrians enjoying both sides of the river up close reminded me of just how important maintaining our international relationship is.

I witnessed the vital work our pilots do to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods through our ports every single day and at all hours. They navigate massive ships carrying steel, grain, and other critical materials across our waterways in all kinds of weather.

Their expert guidance also protects our infrastructure, preventing accidents along the way, and keeping operations running smoothly. From the Atlantic Ocean, to New York, from Cleveland, Detroit, to right here in the 13th House District’s St. Clair Shores, and Sarnia, Canada, these pilots and ships go a long ways to carry our goods!

Our region is a major economic engine for our state and nation, but like many, I am concerned about the tariffs —especially to steel, that threaten to disrupt this economic flow.

We’ve got to do everything we can to sustain and grow this region. We owe it to the people who help power it everyday.Image attachmentImage attachment+2Image attachment
