The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is North America’s strongest union, representing more than 1.2 million people in the U.S, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Teamsters are known as the champion of freight drivers and warehouse workers, but have organized workers in virtual every occupation imaginable, both professional and non-professional, private and public sector.

The Department of Strategic Initiatives oversees the Teamsters’ communications, research, economic analysis, and capital strategies, as well as the Teamsters History Project. Strategic Initiatives provides essential resources to more than 360 Teamster affiliates to succeed in organizing, public relations and contract campaigns, expand audience reach and improve messaging and public perception of the Teamsters.

The Capital Strategies unit within Strategic Initiatives represents the interests of the union and its members with the investor community, including investment and brokerage firms, industry analysts, ratings agencies, and corporate governance professionals. The Capital Strategies unit provides corporate, financial, governance, competitive market and industry research and analysis for Teamster divisions and conferences, union leadership, staff, and members on a continuing basis.

Position Description:
Capital Market Analysts assist the Capital Strategies’ senior leadership in developing and maintaining relationships with capital markets constituencies (e.g., institutional investors, industry analysts, corporate governance professionals, and pension fund trustees), as well as designing, implementing, and executing investor outreach programs on behalf of the union.

Core responsibilities include conducting corporate, market and financial research from primary and secondary sources, advising union leadership on actionable investor outreach and campaign programs, and representing Teamster constituencies to investment and corporate governance professionals, trade and advocacy associations, and labor allies. Findings and recommendations are prepared and delivered to internal and external audiences via written reports, public presentations, and financial models as appropriate.

Occasional travel is required. The position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be available to work a traditional full-time schedule at our DC headquarters.

Applicants:
Applicants for Capital Market Analyst positions must have experience conducting corporate, industry, financial and/or market research using their knowledge and expertise in accounting, financial analysis, statistics, mathematics, and/or economics. Fluency in understanding and interpreting corporate and brokerage analyst reports, corporate financial statements, SEC filings and financial models is required. Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office suite products is required. An understanding of labor unions and their structure is preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a range from $85,000 to $110,000. The Teamsters offers a robust total compensation package including FICA reimbursement, 100% employer-paid health & welfare plan, pension, optional 401(k), FSA, and vacation & sick leave.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business, mathematics, or a related field required.
  • One to five years of work experience in a professional environment required. Previous employment in a labor union/advocacy organization, transportation, or product distribution sector company/industry association, or in a corporate finance/securities brokerage/asset management position or role preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence in analyzing financial statements, sell-side brokerage analyst reports and other economics reports required.
