Access to adequate nutrition is essential for the healthy development and growth of children, but unfortunately, many children across the United States face food insecurity, with many families struggling to provide regular meals for their children due to financial hardship.
The Biden administration has proposed using the USDA's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to allow schools with large SNAP-enrolled student bodies to apply as a school, rather than forcing hungry students to apply individually.
By allowing more schools to apply for the CEP as a group, eligible students in the school will automatically receive free meals, reducing the administrative burden on families and school staff and eliminating the stigma associated with receiving free meals.
The Biden administration is doing the right thing, but to get the new rule implemented, we have to fight to make it happen.
